The Lawn Garden.

No room for a garden of size. No big yard. No problem. I had way to many plants about 6 years ago. I still had 120 or so in 1 and 3 gallon containers. I had no beds made for them and they were just to nice to waste.

So I looked into the backyard and saw nothing but lawn. I loaded  up my wheel barrow from the last compost pile and I went out and set one shovel full of compost on the lawn.

Next I cut the bottom out of the plastic container and set it on the compost. I then drove in a rebar thru the container and tied the plant stem to it. I put 25 in a row at a 2 ft. spacing.

I then laid a dripper hose across the tops of the containers and tied it to the rebar poles. I added a little extra fertilizer and turned on the dripper.  The results were simply amazing. I tell you this because so many families think they cant have a garden with fresh vegetables.

Yes you can even with a small lawn, a dripper hose and some potting soil or compost. Heck mulch will work as well. Its a sight and you can plant anything you want.

Peppers, lettuce, cabbage, okra, squash, tomatoes, beans, and yes even cucumbers. I used the Florida weave for the first time on that project. I only use the Florida weave now to support my tomatoes. All my cages went to cukes, melons, and beans.

Tip: The dripper hose is the key. Water twice a day. I added extra pellet fertilizer to the top of the container because of washout and let it drip thru to the roots. I also used stop rot for the loss of calcium that frequents container gardeners. Do not let your containers dry out. I found a 20-30 minute drip twice a day worked very well, once in the morning and once in the evening.
